A 1930s Cadillac emerges from darkness, chrome grille and twin lamps the only light against a black field. Photographed head-on, the car becomes a portrait: dignified, a little severe, a survivor of an age of hand-built luxury. One imagines it idling outside a theatre on a wet night, waiting for someone who never quite arrives.
